Understanding Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Systems
Hybrid and electric vehicles are becoming more common in today's automotive industry. Because of this, technicians need to understand how these vehicles work and how to service them safely.
These vehicles are different from normal petrol or diesel vehicles because they use electrical power to assist or fully drive the vehicle. They may have high-voltage batteries, electric motors, inverters, converters, charging systems, cooling systems, and many control modules.
This course introduces students to the basic design, operation, safety, and servicing of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV). Students will learn how power moves through the system, how the main components work together, and why safety is very important when working around high-voltage systems.
The course also introduces diagnostic areas such as warning lights, charging problems, battery cooling problems, 12V battery issues, loss of isolation concerns, and driving range complaints.
The goal is to help students build confidence and understand the correct way to approach hybrid and electric vehicles.
What you will achieve
- βUnderstand the design and operation of HEV and BEV systems
- βPerform safe high-voltage isolation and service procedures
- βDiagnose common EV faults using professional diagnostic equipment
- βService battery, motor, inverter, and charging systems
- βBuild confidence working with next-generation vehicle technology
